I went to bed last night knowing the site here had some issues. Apparently, some malicious junks had gotten into the works, and a redirect had been put in place. I do not know exactly how it happened, but I suspect it was via the wiki. I spent a couple hours this morning poking through .php files, and the website directory. I think I found all of the offenders, but this intrusion makes me wary, so I have implemented a few changes.
1. The wiki is locked down now, and I do not believe it will as easily be used as an infection vector.
2. I have disabled comments. This one has been a long time coming. I have less than 5,000 views on this site, thus far. With those views has come over 750 spam comments. I had things set for me to moderate each comment by a new commenter, and that means 8-10 emails each morning containing nothing but spam comments. I realize that is a small number compared to many sites, but since I am doing this in my free time, I decided I did not want to deal with it any longer.
I thought long and hard about disabling comments, but the truth is that even with comments enabled, I got more feedback via Twitter and G+ than I did through this website. So, if you want to give me feedback on the content I post here, you can always hit me up on Twitter, or G+. I might be creating G+ and Facebook pages for Sand & Steam specifically, but we will see.
I hope that problems like this are rare, but I am trying to be realistic about things. This is an age of access, and that includes access you might not want people to have.
