The State of the Steam

Hi there. Been a bit, yeah? I guess I’ve not known what to say. Life’s been more than a little crazy recently. I know everyone who hasn’t blogged in a while says that, but what are you gonna do? I feel like things are settling down now, and that’s given me a chance to give something of a State of the Steam-type update.

Iron Edda: War of Metal and Bone

If you missed it, the War of Metal and Bone Kickstarter ended in grand fashion, at a total of just under $20,000. Impressive! In fact, it’s the ending of that Kickstarter that kind of derailed me. That amount of money is almost what I make in a year at my day job and is more than some of my friends make. It staggered me. Made me feel unworthy.

However, I realize those feelings for the bunk that they are and have moved forward. John Adamus, my editor, has text from me, Quinn Murphy, Paul Stefko, and Ryan Macklin. I’ve got words slated to come in from Cam Banks, Jessica Banks, and Lilian Cohen-Moore. In other words, things are right on track!

Iron Edda: Sveidsdottir

I got my edits back from Amanda today! That means I get to dive back into the story of Sigrid and get my polishing tools out. I’ve got rough spots to smooth, and more detail to add to make it the story that it needs to be, and that my backers deserve.

As well, I’ll soon be starting on the short stories that I need to write for backer rewards. I’m feeling like I should be able to meet the June delivery date, but it will take hard work to get there.

Other Projects

I’ve got a few other things slated for the rest of this year. There will be announcements forthcoming soon, I think. I just need to get the details worked out. Some of them are projects that I’ve talked about before (Terrorform) and other are completely new. There may also be some major news about Sand & Steam itself, but I can’t say more until I know more.

I’m such a tease.

One of the things that I do want to start doing is to do a series on how to do projects like School Daze, One Shot, or War of Metal and Bone. From start to finish. Idea to final book. Working with freelancers, the whole nine yards. It’s ambitious, but I’ve done this four times, now, so I think I might have some insight to offer.

There’s a lot of exciting stuff coming up. I’m going to do my best to make sure that you are able to keep up with what’s going on. See you soon!
